100% Organic features instrumentation and musical elements from the funk, blues and soul genres, featuring such as Southern-styled guitar licks, languid soul melodies, and mellow 1970s funk grooves, with the incorporation of southern slang in their lyrics. Shawkut (Southern Hospitality Always Works To Keep U Tight) represents the average urban life as a young black man in the South trying to make something about themselves over an old school hip hop elements.

100% Organic seems to pay homage to Outkast Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik a peach cobbler of soul funk mixed with the new wave of Trap inspired songs. Starting with the “Intro”, which is smooth and different from the typical intro with the spoken word. The explanation of the label imprint mixed with the ideologies of the lifestyle from living in the south gives the listener a synopsis of what they are about to experience. Acting as a host, is a nice segue to the artist Shawkut with “Young World”. “Young World” has has a nice Parliament Funkadelic feel, which blends in perfectly after the introduction. The clear and groovy vocals is easy on the ears but very different and original to draw in any new listener. It sets the tone for the rest of the album of what I consider the early days of ATL. If you are a fan of Outkast and the Dungeon Family then this cd will be nostalgia.

This continues with “Get up the Loot”, that uses a catchy beat, repetitive chant and a bouncy tempo gives you the classic Georgia bounce to get hype and ride. With money being the motivation for most young hustlers, this can easily be a song to represent the hunger. “It Doesn’t Matter” and “Life at the Studio” slows things down, and gives a more interpersonal feel to the listener.

“Like the Way” gives a funky feel to the beat with the typical southern drawl which you will find from a typical artist from Georgia. And speaking of Outkast (mention earlier), if there was any comparisons, Shawkut has the swagger of Andre 3000 with the hustle ambition of a Young T.I. “If U Want To” At first it sounded as Shawkut was re using the same template of “Like the Way”, but the Bootsy Collins style vocals that comes in and changes up the tempo and the direction gives the song its own identity. Strong performance for a possible lead single. Simple and catchy, with a very radio friendly vibe or the type of song you and the family can dance to at a family cook out or get together.

Tracks like “Go Krazy” and “Uh Oh”, pays homage to classic early cuts from the ATL such as T.I’s I’m Serious, but at this time into the album, the feel is completely different. There is a gem in the middle of these two tracks with “Wide Awake”. A personal favorite of the album, “Wide Awake” is an inspirational song about doing what you have to do to follow your passions and be productive. Ending the album with “All or Nothing” is great. Highlighting all of the attributes that makes Shawkut stand out with the infusion his funky delivery with street intelligence makes a nice counterpart to the original intro.

With many artist(s) coming out of Georgia with the same story, style, and approach, Shawkut and Horzontial Hustle is breath of fresh air.
